South Down DUP
Back to Rathfriland for the last time this year for the parade organised by the South Down DUP flute band. What an improvement they have made in such a small period of time. It's a home parade for a couple of the band members including fluter Gary Bennett, that is if he's allowed out on that particular evening.
The band was massive tonight, 29 flutes, 11 drums, and 8 girls in the Colour party. The band looked and sounded incredible, arguably the best performance of the year.
Again all the big-hitters were there and rightly so as the DUP lads had clocked up the miles during the year and deserved a big turnout at their parade. Pride of Ballinran kicked things off. Also there Pride of the Hill, Donaghadee, Downshire and Clogher.
There are just some nights when you know it will take something very special to beat you and I had that feeling as the band made it's way around the route. The Finale in the square was superb and the crowd absolutely loved it.
So to did the judges, they gave us 6 first prizes.
Best Colour Party, Drum Major, Drum Corps, Melody Flute, Style and Appearance and Best Overall
