South Down Defenders

Friday 26th August saw the band make the short journey to Newry to support South Down Defenders. The two bands have supported each other throughout the years and continue to do so.

With Black Saturday being held the following day, the hosts were still rewarded with a quality selection of 37 bands and good crowds that assembled around the finish point at the Orange Hall.

The parade itself was a VE Celebration parade with free burgers and minerals on offer at the orange hall with many of our younger members taking up the offer of a free meal.

The band tonight traveled with 27 flutes (including a 1st outing for a new member), 12 drummers, 7 flag girls, cutter on the bass drum, wj on the cymbals, Nigel on the blackthorn and big Darren on the mace.

Band played well tonight after arriving later than usual, with the jigs and a few other known pieces played to the crowds enjoyment especially one new one that went down a treat.

We were rewarded only 1st place tonight in drum corps. So well done to the drummers and a few 2nds and 3rds were also received.
