Saturday 30th July saw the band travel to south belfast for the annual band parade of South Belfast Young Conquerors. This year seen the unusual weather of cloud and rain compared to previous yeasr when it is known to be one of the hottest parade dates in the band season.

Even with the weather not being as kind to the hosts, the crowds didnt diappoint. A good turnout of spectators lined the route with the majority of the crowds being at the start/finish point, shaftesbury square and at sandy row with all bands receiving good applause from the crowd.

Some of the bands that i got to see where Kilcluney Volunteers who were impressive with 14 and 30, Newtonards Protestant Boys who were playing a song 'lonely' by Akon which i and others thought was catchy and something different. This is a band that i have only started to see more recently and are improving all the time.

Pride of the Hill Rathfriland, Pride of Knockmore, Clougher and provided good competition in the Blood and Thunder section with the East Belfast Protestant Boys parading in their new light blues trousers which is an excellent addition to their uniform. Got a chance to follow them up the donegal pass at the end of the parade and were sounding and looking excellent as they have all year in which they have dominated.

Our own band today travelled with 9 drummers, 24 fluters, 4 flag girls, WJ on the cymbals, craig on the mace and the one and only bass drummer 'cutter'.

Big change this year from previous years at this parade as we have always travelled with a smalll band due to members on holidays etc but a big improvement this year and the quality maintained as we wer rewarded with six first places for our efforts.

Six firsts on the day included Colour Party who have been tremendous all year (big well done to the girls and WJ Heaney), Drum Major, Drum Corps, Melody Flute, Style and Appearance and Best Entertaining band.

Big well done to those who made the effort and hopefully it can maintain throughout the rest of the season .
